Following measures to ban unhealthily thin models from Madrid Fashion Week, calls are now being made for London Fashion Week to follow suit.
Liberal Democrat Culture Spokesperson on the London Assembly, Dee Doocey, said:
"With eating disorders on the increase, it is irresponsible to be glorifying an unnatural image that puts impressionable girls' and women's health at risk.
'Women's magazines today are full of images of women whose dress size is so small, it is off the conventional size scale. This is not only wrong, it is dangerous.
'Our young women need role models that look like real women, not stick insects on a catwalk.
'London Fashion Week should follow Madrid's example and ban models whose Body Mass Index is below acceptable levels"
