The harsh impact of the London Development Agency (LDA) ending any further funding for the King's Cross Construction Training Centre was highlighted by Dee Doocey, the Liberal Democrat London Assembly Member at today's Question Time at City Hall.
Dee Doocey questioned the Chairman and Chief Executive of the LDA over the sense in not renewing funding for the project which has a successful track record in providing training and employment opportunities.
After the Question Time session at City Hall Dee Doocey said:
"All the evidence shows that the King's Cross Construction Training Centre has a great record in providing training and securing jobs on the King's Cross regeneration programme. The LDA even acknowledge its successes in developing good links with employers and its focus on the helping the hardest to reach.
"At the very depths of a recession it is misguided for the LDA to implement this decision.
"I also think the LDA must reconsider its decision to move into funding 10 new academies. This is an area of activity the LDA should stay well clear of as it falls completely out of its basic remit. But above all else I fail to understand how the LDA can possibly find money to put into academies when they are denying much needed funding for projects such as the King's Cross Construction Training Centre."
