I was elected to the London Assembly in 2004, and was Chair of the Assembly in 2010/11. I chair the Economy, Culture and Sport Committee (the Assembly's lead committee for monitoring Olympic Games). I also serve on the Metropolitan Police Authority, chair their Olympic and Paralympic sub-committee and am a member of the Home Office Olympic Security Board.
I served as a councillor on the London Borough of Richmond for eight years and chaired the Housing Committee.
My business experience includes 10 years as Finance Director of the Liberal Party/Liberal Democrats; Group Managing Director of an international fashion company with operations in London, Hong Kong and China and running a management consultancy. I gave up my business interests when I was elected to the London Assembly in order to concentrate full time on my duties as an Assembly Member.
Both my parents were in the theatre - my mother was an actress and singer and my father played the saxophone and clarinet. I have inherited their love of the theatre - if not their musical talent! I also greatly enjoy listening to music when relaxing. My husband Jim is a country and western fan, but I prefer easy listening.
I have been married to Jim for over 40 years and we have one son Mark.
