Dee Doocey welcomes HMIC report on policing of protest

12.52.58pm GMT Wed 25th Nov 2009

Dee Doocey, the Liberal Democrat London Assembly policing spokesperson and long serving member of the Metropolitan Police Authority commenting on today's publication of the second report in the review of policing protest by Her Majesty's Chief Inspector of Constabulary said:

"This is an excellent report. I especially welcome the importance it attaches to the fundamental principles of policing of being approachable, impartial and accountable. Most fundamentally it reminds us that policing must always be based on using minimum force.

"I also welcome many of the specific recommendations in the report, in particular the need to clarify the legal framework over the use of overt photography by the police as well as to review the status of the Association of Chief Police Officers.

"However what really matters is that this report is actually implemented so as to ensure that the many shameful aspects of policing relating to the G20 protests are never repeated."
