Dee chairs the London Assembly's Economic Development, Culture, Sport & Tourism Committee at City Hall.

The committee's priority is to make a difference to the lives of the Londoners it represents. It investigates topics of interest and relevance to Londoners and makes well-researched recommendations, which can inform and influence the decisions of the Mayor, the boroughs and other government agencies.

In the last year the committee published reports on:

  • The provision of public swimming pools and diving facilities in London

  • 2012 sporting legacy for young Londoners

  • Support for small business start-ups

  • Progress on the delivery of the Olympic legacy

In December the committee held an economic seminar at City Hall, entitled 'How Can London Bounce Back? London's Response to the Economic Downturn'. Over 150 invited guests and members of the public attended the seminar. Focusing on the roles of the Mayor and the London Development Agency in supporting the capital's economy, this seminar included three keynote speeches and a question and answer session with a panel of experts. It highlighted five key areas that the Mayor should address through his Economic Recovery Action Plan.

Future committee scrutinies will include:

  • Skills and employment in London

  • The legacy from Olympic venues
